Self-esteem and Fitting in

Sorry for not blogging in a while, I had to work a lot and focus on finishing school- oh yeah, I graduated high school, so that's pretty cool.
In this entry I wanted to talk about self-esteem and fitting in. I know it's something I've really struggled with and I'm sure 95% of teens have. I mean for a lot of us, the self esteem issues come from trying to fit in.
Like I said in a previous entry, when I went into highschool, I was only going with two close friends. It was hard when everyone else was showing up with a group of 5-6 friends. I went to a uniform school, but I remember on the days we could dress down, my grade 9 self would spend the night before figuring out a half decent outfit to wear. Then when I got to school I would constantly feel like I should've wore something different because I "didn't fit in". This continued till about grade 11, I still worried so much of what people thought of me. Luckily at the end of grade 11, I stopped caring, a very smart person told me I needed to smarten up; that I shouldn't care what people think of me by the way I dress. Now I feel confident in whatever I choose to wear- let me tell you, some of it's a tad crazy haha. I have all different styles and I'm happy with them.
However, in my opinion, makeup is a different story. A lot of my friends started wearing makeup while we were still in elementary school, I find that super young, only because wearing makeup can ruin your skin and make you age so much faster. (I sound like a mom haha) Honestly though, save your beautiful skin and hold out, because as cheesy as it sounds, you ARE beautiful without it. To my high school girl readers, if you wear makeup, no hate because I do too. I used to never leave the house without makeup on because some stupid boy told me I looked "like death" ,whatever that looks like. I still don't like leaving the house without makeup on, but I can do it and feel okay about it.
The last topic I wanted to touch on is hair. Girls have this emotional attachment to their hair. I don't know why, but short hair seems scary. My mom said something to me the other day about how every girl pretty much looks the same, we all have the same length hair and it's either red, brown, blonde or black; I mean it's true. Recently, one of my close friends cut all her hair off, and you know what, she rocks short hair.( s/o to Sammie) It actually kind of pushed me towards cutting my hair short- something I never thought i'd say. The one thing holding me back from actually rolling through with it, was the thought of people judging me. Self esteem drop, I sat in my room and thought, " will people think I look dumb", "do guys even like girls with short hair?" - what the hell Natalie. I have an appointment to cut my hair to my shoulders this week, I'm going to follow through with it, and I actually feel really good about it. I mean it's definitely going to be an adjustment but I'm already excited for it.
So to end things off, here is my advice to all of you. WEAR WHAT YOU WANT! WEAR MAKEUP-OR DONT who cares! If you feel like you want to cut your hair or do something different DO IT! All these things may be hard at first, but once you do it- you'll realize nobody else's opinion matters, because YOU like it and that's the only opinion that matters.
Thanks again for reading my corny crazy blog!

The 1980's were the bomb

Don't you ever wish that you could have grown up in the 80's? I mean think about it, they had such a sweet wardrobe, classic songs and crazy love stories.
There would have been no Bieber or twerking, life would have been so classy and cute. Swag was something the gangsters had- but even those gangsters weren't like the "gangsters" we grew up with. There was no texting, Facebook or Twitter; so if you wanted to ask that special person out, you actually had to ask them in person. You hear all the cute love stories about the guys throwing pebbles at the girls window and when she opens the window he has her favourite love song blasting and then they ride off into the sunset in his 1975 pickup truck. ( That may be a little far fetched, but c'mon its cute!)
School dances were when you put on your best outfit and you leaned on the wall waiting for a boy to ask you to dance. Then you proceeded to "DANCE" not grind with said boy. You didn't dance to any BeyoncĂ© or Jay-Z songs, you danced to songs like, "Uptown Girl", "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", and "Summer of 69" AHHH wouldn't that be great!
The 80's were the bomb ;)

Teenage girl intro..

It's weird trying to figure out something witty and cute to say to begin this thing WOW. Well uh HEY- I'm Natalie. I'm 17 years-old and I look like something you'd scrape off the bottom of a shoe. Not just any shoe though- something classy like someone's pair of Jordan's (Ou holla~). Seriously though- I'm just trying to make it through this thing we call life. * This was a cheesy intro and I apologize* AHEM anyway...

I was and am that shy girl at school, the one that doesn't say much because they don't want to be judged- yeah, that's me. Lets look at grade 9 for a moment, I started high school with the worst "bob" haircut ever and a lovely retainer to close in the massive gap in my teeth. I started at a new school with 2 good friends and that was it. I wasn't the type to go up to someone and be like, "Hey- lets be friends?" YA-NO that wasn't happening.

I mean eventually I did get out and make new friends, grew my hair out and lost the metal mouth but I never really lost the being "Shy" phase, I can have a conversation with someone that I just met- but after I will always replay what I said and do the whole, " What the heck is wrong with you? Why did you say that- ugh they're going to think you're such a loser" conversation.

Well, its late, im really tired (loser) and I realize that this entry was going nowhere but uhm maybe i'll continue this blog soon and maybe, just maybe, it wont be so suckish. Well goodnight my lovelies- enjoy the grade 9 picture ;)

holy cow eh? hotstuff- grade 9 qt3.14
